The Law School congratulates Assistant Dean Michael McCarthy, the 2020 winner of the President’s Award for Distinguished Service.  

Schools around the country are now in session, though they’re offering a patchwork of different learning models amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Bailey Kadian, a second-year student at the School of Law, is taking a look at what the long-term impacts of these approaches are, especially for students who rely on special education programs.

Just one year removed from graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting and drawing, Sydney Slacas did not wait long to make an impression.

Deborah Turner-Johnson, a dedicated law school faculty support staff member for 13 years, passed away on August 19, 2020.  She was 63. A website to post remembrances is available 

Professor Emeritus Morris G. Shanker passed away on August 18 at age 93.  Professor Shanker, who joined the faculty of �ǿմ�ý School of Law in 1961 and served as Acting Dean of the law school in 1972, had a considerable reputation in the fields of commercial law, creditor-debtor law, and bankruptcy.

�ǿմ�ý School of Law will be among the few law schools in the country to offer first-year law students the flexible option to start in January, Co-Deans Jessica Berg and Michael Scharf announced today.  For the first time, the Law School is also now accepting GRE scores from applicants, in addition to the

Donald Lampert, who taught Workers Compensation as an adjunct professor at �ǿմ�ý School of Law for 28 years, passed away on August 10, 2020 from a hemorrhagic stroke.  He is survived by his wife, Patty and his son, Charles. 

On July 23, 2020, Visiting Professor Katharine Van Tassel testified before the Ohio Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights as an invited panelist. The hearings were entitled Civil Rights and Equity in the Delivery of Medical and Public Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Ohio.

Ayesha Bell Hardaway, assistant professor of law and director of the law school's Social Justice Law Center, was recently quoted in a New York Times article examining how collective bargaining agreements for officers provide protections that stand in the way of accountability.

On July 15, �ǿմ�ý Law Professor Jonathan Adler was interviewed on the Supreme Myths podcast with Georgia State University College of Law Professor Eric J. Segall, the author of Originalism as Faith and Supreme Myths: Why the Supreme Court is not a Court and its Justices are not Judges.

�ǿմ�ý Law alumna Capricia Penavic Marshall ('90) will speak at The City Club of Cleveland 's Authors in Conversation Series online forum on July 24 at 12:30 p.m.
