From the attack on the U.S. Capitol to social justice and Supreme Court cases and to the health law concerns around the global pandemic, the expertise and insight of the School of Law’s faculty at �ǿմ�ý were at the forefront of the stories making headlines nationally and internationally.

Leon Gabinet, longtime tax law professor at the �ǿմ�ý School of Law, passed away on Dec. 6, 2021, at age 94. He is survived by his children Sarah (LAW '82), Katie and Ari, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delanté Spencer Thomas, director of JD Advantage Advising and Outreach at �ǿմ�ý School of Law, has been named to Crain's Cleveland Business 2021 Forty Under 40.

President Joe Biden has nominated Marisa Darden, an adjunct professor at �ǿմ�ý School of Law, as the next U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. If confirmed, Darden will be the first Black woman to hold this position.

The Shaker Schools Alumni Hall of Fame has added two members of the �ǿմ�ý (�ǿմ�ý) School of Law community to its distinguished ranks: Ayesha Bell Hardaway (LAW ‘04) and Mark Davies Griffin (LAW ‘94).

On Nov. 2, 2021, �ǿմ�ý (�ǿմ�ý) School of Law alumnus Justin Bibb was elected as the 57th mayor of Cleveland, replacing retiring four-term mayor Frank Jackson. It marks the first time that Bibb, 34, will hold public office.

When the Boston Red Sox hired Bianca Smith (LAW ’17, MGT ’17) this year as a Minor League coach, she made history as the first Black woman coach in professional baseball. For the double alumna, hitting the upper echelons of a sport she’s longed to coach started with a shot from �ǿմ�ý.
