Trade Law at �ǿմ�ý School of Law is more than a course taught by one of the nation’s leading experts. It’s more than the preeminent Trade Law Fall Update, the practitioner-focused conference held annually at the Law School. And it’s more than the opportunity for funded externships at the U.S.

The School of Law launched its new Master and Certificates in Compliance and Risk Management Programs in the fall of 2021. These programs are designed to meet the increasing demand by businesses and government agencies for experts in state, federal, and international laws and regulations.

Layla Maurer, a third-year law student at �ǿմ�ý School of Law, has been an enthusiastic gamer since playing her first arcade games and Atari and Nintendo consoles. While the demands of law school occupy most of her days, she still finds time to unwind by gaming with her family.

In recognition of her edited book, Family Murder: Pathologies of Love and Hate (2019), Adjunct Professor Susan Hatters Friedman, MD, earned the American Psychiatric Association/American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law’s 2020 Manfred S. Guttmacher Award.

In October, �ǿմ�ý School of Law First Amendment Clinic students Makela Hayford, Ginger Pinkerton and Nathan Venesky, along with First Amendment Fellow Sara Coulter, completed a 3½-day bench trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in Youngstown before the Honorable Judge Benita Y.

The School of Law at �ǿմ�ý is among the top law schools that produce the most “Super Lawyers” and “Rising Stars,” according to an article in this month’s National Jurist magazine.  

�ǿմ�ý School of Law Professor Jonathan Adler was the sixth most cited professor in the field of Environmental Law from 2016-2020, according to a study released this month.  

As he retires as president of the George Gund Foundation at the end of the year, David Abbott will step into a new role in 2022 as the inaugural Distinguished Jurist in Residence at the �ǿմ�ý School of Law.

Bailey Kadian never intended to follow so closely in her father’s footsteps. Yet she and her father, Mark Kadian (LAW ‘91), both chose �ǿմ�ý School of Law after receiving undergraduate degrees in English from the University of Michigan.

�ǿմ�ý School of Law is the only law school with a foreign relations talk radio show.

A new book by Professor Juscelino Colares, Restructuring Trade Agreements, has been published by Wolters Kluwer.  Using the European Union-Turkey trade relationship as a primary case study, the book provides a practical framework for identifying trade agreements that are ripe for renegotiation and discusses how such reneg

It is widely recognized that publishing improves teaching. Scholarly writing enables professors to bring up-to-date information into the classroom and share their research on cutting-edge developments with their students.

“Razing the Bar,” �ǿմ�ý School of Law’s faculty/student/alumni rock band, will kick off the 2021 Jam for Justice as the lead band Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m., in the front yard of the Great Lakes Science Center. The in-person event features seven local lawyer rock bands, a drink, and a light dinner.

Professor Maxwell Mehlman, co-director of the Law-Medicine Center, the Arthur E. Petersilge Professor of Law and a Distinguished University Professor, published the fifth edition of his acclaimed textbook, Genetics: Ethics, Law and Policy (Thompson/West, 2020).
