Sharona Hoffman, the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Law, is serving as a at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Department of Bioethics in Washington, D.C., during her spring semester sabbatical.
As a visiting scholar, Hoffman is researching and writing about the legal and ethical challenges of cognitive decline among health care providers and about privacy and data security. Hoffman, who is also a professor in the bioethics department at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½â€™s School of Medicine, is participating in all department activities, including teaching, commenting on colleagues’ works in progress, and attending numerous bioethics workshops and seminars.
The Department of Bioethics at the NIH is a center for research, training and service related to bioethical issues. The department conducts conceptual, empirical and policy-related research into bioethical issues; and offers comprehensive training to future bioethicists and educational programs for biomedical researchers and clinical providers.
