Every community faces its own challenges—and often, the struggles are shared across boundaries. In mid-April, �ǿմ�ý School of Law students explored three Cleveland-area communities to see in person how leaders grapple with pressing land-use challenges.

2L Maryam Mahboob was recently awarded the Real Property Law Student Scholarship from the Ohio State Bar Association’s Real Property Law Section, a $2,500 award that comes with a representative seat on the Real Property Law Section Council.

Monte Mills, the Charles I. Stone Professor of Law and director of the Native American Law Center at University of Washington School of Law, joined the Coleman P.

�ǿմ�ý is launching a new program to capitalize on commercializing innovations arising from the burgeoning field of regenerative medicine.  The program, which begins in fall semester 2023, is a collaboration between the School of Medicine and School of Law.

Nearly three months after news broke that a train had derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, students in the Environmental Law Clinic at �ǿմ�ý School of Law held a free legal clinic in East Palestine. 

After completing multiple different internships and externships during his time at �ǿմ�ý School of Law, 3L Sam Halpert Rodis is looking ahead to his post-graduate life as a Judge Advocate with the U.S. Army.

We are proud to announce the addition of four impactful lateral hires to our community of scholars and the promotion of Ayesha Bell Hardaway to full professor of law with tenure (all effective July 1 except Atiba Ellis, who began Jan. 1). 

3L Andrew Thompson was recently awarded first place in the Louis Jackson Memorial National Student Writing Competition for his note “Shortened Limitation Periods in Employment Contracts: A Reasonable Suggestion,” which will be published in Volume 73 of the �ǿմ�ý Law Review. 

On Saturday, �ǿմ�ý School of Law concluded its inaugural launch of The Academy for Inclusive Leadership Development.

After nearly four decades of teaching at �ǿմ�ý School of Law, Jonathan Entin, the David L. Brennan Professor Emeritus of Law, is set to retire a second time, this time from his position as faculty advisor of the Law Review.

After winning the Midwest regional in February (as well as the Best Brief Award and Best Oralist Awards), the law school’s Jessup International Law Moot Court team competed at the World Championships from April 8-15 in Washington, DC.

Back in 2020, in an ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, �ǿմ�ý School of Law began to pursue strategic partnerships with select Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) designed to encourage a greater number of under-represented minority students to attend the law school.

From March 29 through April 2, the Ault Mock Trial Team competed in the finals of the Texas Young Lawyers Association’s National Trial Competition in San Antonio, Texas. This is the most prestigious mock trial competition in the country with only 30 out of a possible 300 teams advancing to the finals.

Last summer, �ǿմ�ý School of Law Co-Dean Michael Scharf and his colleagues at the Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG) drafted model legislation to establish the Ukraine High Court for War Crimes. The project was the result of weeks of research and meetings with Ukrainian and U.S. legal experts.
