The ten students who recently completed their semesters in the Appellate Litigation Clinic have taken us to new heights. Between Aug. and Dec. 2022, this team of stalwart advocates took on seven new appeals—six criminal and one civil—in four different Ohio appellate courts across the state and in the federal Sixth Circuit. 

Professor Jessie Hill and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Reproductive Rights Fellow Becca Kendis (LAW '19, MSASS '19) were honored by the ACLU of Ohio for their advocacy of reproductive rights in Ohio. Both Hill and Kendis are on the litigation team challenging Ohio's 6-week abortion ban, which is currently blocked by the courts.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Law alumnus Martin Gruenberg (LAW '79) was sworn in as Chairman of the FDIC Board of Directors on Jan. 5, 2023. 

A third year law student at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, Matthew McDonald has been performing live music in the Cleveland area for over a decade. Blending 60’s pop music with art-rock, industrial, electronic and new age sounds, his current band Regas-McDonald has released two albums and is currently recording their third. 

From a memorable midterm election to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and medical breakthroughs to the war in Ukraine, the expertise and insight of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½â€™s faculty and staff were at the forefront of the stories making headlines nationally and internationally this year. 

LLEAP 3, the third component of the law school’s legal writing program, transforms the classroom into a law firm where students research, write, advise clients, negotiate, and advocate exactly as a junior business or litigation attorney would.

Our Appellate Litigation Clinic capped off the fall semester with a major victory in the Supreme Court of Ohio: in a 4–3 decision, the state’s highest court reversed lower-court decisions that deprived the client of the right to withdraw a guilty plea upon discovering evidence that the State had withheld from him.

Congratulations to our twelve Community Development Clinic interns, who just finished a semester completing dozens of legal projects for Cleveland area community organizations and social enterprises.

Third-year law student Magda Phillips was recently selected by the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation to serve at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland in the fall of 2023 as a Justice for All Fellow.

The First Amendment Clinic is pleased to report that its client, Cleveland State University’s student newspaper The Cauldron, has been dismissed from a lawsuit brought by local restaurant Burgers 2 Beer.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ President Eric Kaler joined Anthony Richardson, the President of the Gund Foundation, and law school Co-Deans Jessica Berg and Michael Scharf to rededicate George Gund Hall. A number of faculty, alumni, staff and students joined them to celebrate the historic milestone.

The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Law hosted 24 mock trial teams from across the country from November 11–13 in the annual Case Classic Mock Trial Competition. Case Classic is among the country's first Mock Trial competitions each year, and it is growing in prestige.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Law is proud to present the inaugural issue of The Reporter, a collection of essays written by students at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Law’s Social Justice Law Center.

Professor Sharona Hoffman recently published two articles in leading medical journals. Both address privacy issues.
