Children’s National opened in 1970, and was one of the nation’s first children’s hospitals. Today, it is the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the D.C. metropolitan and the only freestanding children’s hospital between Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norfolk, and Atlanta.
In addition to providing care at its central hospital, the system includes primary care centers, regional outpatient centers, and affiliated pediatric primary and specialty care practices throughout the metropolitan area. The Master of Science in Anesthesia Program has maintained a close relationship with Children’s National Medical Center since the Washington location enrolled its first class in 2012. CNMC is the primary clinical site for our second-year pediatric clinical rotation for all Washington students.
Educational activities and academic affairs at Children’s National Medical Center are overseen by their research institute, which also oversees the academic affairs of the Department of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Additionally, the Children’s Research Institute frequently partners with other research institutions regionally and nationally.
