Houston Program History
The Master of Science in Anesthesia Program at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has a history rich in leadership, scholarship, and reputation in the field of anesthesia. In Houston, we continue to expand on that foundation.
The Houston location launched in 2010 with an initial class of sixteen graduate students.
In the short time that Houston has been training certified anesthesiologist assistants, we have expanded clinical training sites more than threefold. We are quickly becoming one of the richest clinical opportunities in the country, with ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ MSA students actively involved in procedures that use the latest technology and surgical techniques. Our students are exposed to everything, including cutting-edge minimally invasive and robotic surgery; heart, lung, and liver transplants; fetal intrauterine procedures; and massive traumatic injuries.
As a result of this rich clinical training, our graduates have become leaders in the field. The first two certified anesthesiologist assistants to be hired at the Texas Heart Institute were ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ MSA graduates from Houston. These impressive alums oversee the pre-operative clinic and coordinate research in addition to caring for the nation’s sickest vascular and heart patients.
Additionally, Houston students and alumni include the first certified anesthesiologist assistant student to author a poster presentation for the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the first treasurer of the New Mexico Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
