Lubbock Texas

The Master of Science in Anesthesia program's Austin location has expanded its class size to include four additional seats that are dedicated to Lubbock-based clinical rotations. This clinical training focus location of our Austin MSA Program enables us to expand the educational opportunities we offer to those students who are interested in living and training in the heart of West Texas. Our new location will provide courses in varied modalities, with in-person simulation and clinical training, and a hybrid teaching format for didactic courses. Students in the Lubbock location are an integral part of the Austin class and will have access to the same faculty and resources as their fellow classmates who have focused clinical training in Austin.

Simulation Training

Our students will complete their simulation learning at the (TTUHSC) interprofessional simulation site, which will provide simulated, realistic healthcare environments for our students. The various learning experiences at this site will integrate advanced simulators, standardized patients, haptic devices, and authentic medical equipment and supplies - all of which will facilitate the acquisition of competencies required to provide safe, quality patient care.

Clinical Training

After one month of initial anesthesia immersion training in Austin, students will return to Lubbock and complete their first-year clinical training at the (UMC), which also serves as the primary teaching hospital for the TTUHSC. The University Medical Center is located adjacent to the campus of Texas Tech University and is the largest medical facility between Dallas and Albuquerque. It is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region. Students will have the opportunity to train with anesthesiologists, residents and CAAs alike.

Didactic Training

The supported small group learning at our Lubbock clinical training location offers students a closer experience with instructors and classmates; students will be able to quickly form one-on-one connections. Classes will be taught in a hybrid modality, with Austin faculty traveling to Lubbock on a regular basis for in-person classroom teaching at UMC, and the remaining sessions being taught remotely by the same faculty in Austin.

Occasional travel to Austin

Our Austin-at-Lubbock student cohort will travel to Austin about four times a year for key events, such as the initial immersion training, White Coat Ceremony, and holiday dinner. The program will cover the cost of housing while students are in Austin, as well as provide a travel allowance to help cover the cost of traveling back and forth.
