When a student is shot and killed, Cleveland schools' mental health team springs into action

Flannery, the  and director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, said that following a surge in gun violence, schools across the country are dealing with increased numbers of students dealing with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. “Many districts don't have the day-to-day capacity of school counselors and social workers and psychologists to provide those services in school, like any kind of ongoing support,” Flannery said.
