A violent summer for Cleveland teens

WEWSDaniel J. Flannery, the Semi J. and Ruth W. Begun Professor and director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, discussed a surge in gun violence among Cleveland’s youth—partly due to an overwhelming number of guns on the streets.

“It’s certainly been a more persistent issue than it’s been in summers in the past,” he said. “Among young people, everybody thinks that everybody else has a gun… They’re quick to use a gun before someone else uses one against them.”

Flannery's interview appears around 1:40 during the broadcast.
