cleveland.com: Mark L. Joseph, the Leona Bevis/Marguerite Haynam Professor in Community Development and founding director of the National Initiative on Mixed-Income Communities, said that while the rollback of DEI initiatives poses a significant challenge, a more organic and effective approach—"everyday antiracism"—can help sustain progress.
"Everyday antiracism is one antidote to DEI retrenchment for those of us seeking a way to continue progress in this devastating moment," he said.
Rather than relying on formal programs that can be polarizing or performative, Joseph advocates for daily, personal actions that promote fairness, inclusion and reconciliation in workplaces and communities.
Mark Joseph's op-ed appeared on the same page of the Plain Dealer as alumnus and Mandel School Visiting Committee member Richard L. Jones' op-ed on the importance of social workers, in the Forum section on Feb. 26, 2025.
