
The Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio will host a Science Cafe event on the topic of “Rural Health” Thursday, Aug. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
Fredrick Schumacher, associate professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences and co-leader of the Population and Cancer Prevention Program at ǿմý School of Medicine, will be the featured speaker.
During this seminar, Schumacher will discuss working with community partners in a rural setting, including health departments, community activists, state and national offices, other academic centers, and the community. The context of this research study, “Healthy Futures Research Study: Linking somatic mutation rate with baseline exposure in East Palestine, in a rural community establishes the baseline for chemical exposures, and provides new ones using a novel genomic biomarker as a surrogate for direct chemical concentration levels given the mixture of potential contaminants.
