Research Information

Research Interests

Karlo’s research focus is investigating emerging neuroimaging biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, namely the central vein sign and paramagnetic rim lesions, and how those could improve the diagnostic process. Application of such biomarkers may help discern multiple sclerosis from mimicking conditions, which otherwise can be associated with abnormal imaging findings on standard magnetic resonance sequences and raise concerns for a possible underlying demyelinating process. With a timely application of a useful qualitative neuroimaging biomarker, diagnostic accuracy should be improved, and unnecessary invasive testing or inappropriate start of treatments could be avoided.
