Susan Freimark, MA, LPC, BCC

Susan Freimark is the Director of Faculty Development and Diversity at the School of Medicine at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½.  She has developed and implements various professional development programs at the SOM which provide opportunities to reflect and create a career vision statement and action plan, hone leadership skills and confidence, and identify obstacles and challenges to career success.  She serves as a resource to faculty and chairs in navigating leadership issues.

Freimark was part of the original ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ coaching team through the NSF ACES (Academic Careers in Engineering and Science) grant that developed the concept and template for all coaching on campus.  She has coached faculty for over 15 years, with an emphasis on STEMM.  Issues she has provided coaching for include salary equity, power differentials, navigating organizational politics, networking and gaining visibility, career visioning, career action plans, sexual harassment and discrimination, work life integration, and transitioning into administrative positions.  Freimark has been coaching in the FLEX program since its inception and has become familiar with the different cultures at Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth, and the VA Medical Center.

Susan Freimark is a Board Certified Coach with specialties in Executive Leadership Coaching and Career Coaching.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, with a focus on career and professional development issues.

 

 

Margaret Hopkins

Margaret M. Hopkins, PhD

Dr. Margaret M. (Miggy) Hopkins is a Professor of Management in the College of Business and Innovation at the University of Toledo, teaching leadership and management at the Executive MBA, MBA, and upper-undergraduate levels.  Dr. Hopkins has been an executive coach for over 20 years and is a Board Certified Coach credentialed by the Center for Credentialing and Education.  She has worked with a broad array of clients in the service, manufacturing, education, government and non-profit sectors.  Her recent consulting practice focuses on leadership development and executive coaching, particularly gender and leadership, the development of emotional intelligence competencies and resonant leadership.      

Her research interests align with her consulting practice:  leadership, leadership development, emotional intelligence, and gender and leadership.  She has been recognized internationally for her research; and her university has recognized her with teaching and service awards.  Her research has appeared in such journals as the Annual Review of High Performance Coaching and Consulting, Career Development International, Consulting Psychology Journal, Human Resource Management, Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Development, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Managerial Psychology, as well as in several edited volumes.    

Prior to joining academia, she held a number of managerial and leadership roles in the public sector including Chair of the Board of Education for the Cleveland, Ohio Municipal School District; Co-Director of the Mayor’s Office of Competitiveness in Cleveland, Ohio; and Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office for Northeast Ohio.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Boston College, and her masters’ and doctoral degrees in Organizational Behavior from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. 

Karen Horowitz

Karen Horowitz, MD

Dr. Karen Horowitz is a professor emerita from the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ department of medicine in the divisions of general internal medicine and endocrinology. A diabetes specialist, her 35- year career included clinical teaching, research, leadership in the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American Diabetes Association and Editorship of the SGIM Forum. A former WFSOM president, Karen has been a longtime advocate for women’s careers in academic medicine. She is a graduate of FLEX and holds a Coaching Certificate from the Weatherhead School of Business at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. She has served on the Committee on Appointments, Promotions and Tenure; the Education Committee; the Dean’s Expanded Leadership Team; multiple search committees; and award selection committees for WFSOM and FLEX. This year, Karen is looking forward to participating in the FLEX Advisory Committee and as a coach for FLEX. She continues to teach in the Endocrine/Diabetes Clinic at the VA. Karen and her husband, Jeffrey Kahn, have 2 adult children.

Deborah O'Neil, PhD

Dr. Deb O’Neil has 30 years’ experience in management, leadership, and organization development.  She is actively engaged in both the academic and the business worlds as a professor, executive coach, and organizational consultant.  Dr. O’Neil is a Professor of Organizational Behavior in the Department of Management, Schmidthorst College of Business, Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, USA.  She teaches classes in organizational behavior, organization development, and change management in the Executive Master of Organization Development (EMOD) and Doctorate in Organization Development and Change (DODC) programs.  She serves as Director of the EMOD program.  Prior to her appointment at BGSU she was a member of the Organizational Behavior faculty at the Weatherhead School of Management, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ in Cleveland, Ohio, teaching classes in leadership development in the MBA, Executive MBA, MS in Nonprofit Management, and Executive Education programs.  She remains affiliated with Case as an instructor and executive coach for the Weatherhead School’s Executive Education programs, and as an executive coach for faculty and administrators through the University’s ACES+ (Academic Careers in Engineering and Science) program.

Dr. O’Neil’s most recent executive coaching and consulting practice has focused on leadership and emotional competency development, career development, mentoring, and strategic change management.  She is a consultant in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.  A sample list of organizations with which she has worked includes Alcoa, Cleveland Clinic, the Cleveland Municipal School District, Ernst and Young, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Fifth Third Bank, Goldman Sachs, KeyCorp, McKinsey & Company, Roadway Express, J.M. Smucker, and University Hospitals. 

Dr. O’Neil’s research is focused on the processes that assist individuals and organizations in being effective, successful, and productive.  She has published articles on career, leadership, and organization development.  Her work has appeared in such venues as Consulting Psychology Journal, Human Resource Management, Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Career Development International, Journal of Change Management, Journal of Management Education, and in numerous edited volumes. 

Dr. O’Neil serves as an Associate Editor for Career Development International.  She also serves on the Editorial Board of the Organization Development Review.  In addition, Dr. O’Neil is the current Chair of the Organization Development Education Association (ODEA), a consortium of schools and programs whose purpose is to advance and enhance education in the field of OD. She is also a Board Certified Executive Coach.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. O’Neil was a Senior Consultant with Citibank in New York working with leadership teams in the Retail, Real Estate, and Business & Professional Groups.  She was responsible for employee coaching and development, competency modeling, and curriculum design and delivery.  She also managed credit training for the New York Bank.

Dr. O’Neil holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the Weatherhead School of Management at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, a Master of Science Degree in Organization Development/ Human Resource Development from The American University in Washington DC, and Bachelors’ Degrees in Secondary Education, Journalism, and English from the University of Rhode Island.
