About

The Baroque Orchestra provides an opportunity for ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and CIM students to receive practical, pre-professional training in the burgeoning field of 17th- and 18th-century performance practice. The orchestra rehearses once weekly, and during concert weeks rehearses M-Th 4:30-6:15pm and F 2-3:45pm.  The Baroque Orchestra generally presents two concerts each semester. Each semester’s programs concentrate on a particular aspect of Baroque ensemble music: this year students will take part in an all-Bach program, a program of music by English masters including Handel and Purcell, a French program including an opera scene and Rebel’s extraordinary Les Elemens, and a Classical program of Mozart and Haydn.  Alternately directed by Dr. Julie Andrijeski (violin) and Mr. Jaap ter Linden (cello and viola da gamba), players occasionally also benefit from coaching by Dr. Peter Bennett (harpsichord), Mr. Tyler Duncan (voice) and other accomplished artists, each of whom has extensive international performance and teaching experience. Instruments and bows in 17th- and 18th-century set-up are available from the Kulas Collection. By audition only.  (MUEN 397)

Director: Jaap ter Linden, Lecturer in Historical Perf Prac; Viola da Gamba and Baroque Cello
