Event Description
Over the past fifty years, environmental laws have produced dramatic reductions in pollution of the air, water, and soil. Nonetheless, the accumulation of potentially toxic substances in the lived environment continues to pose a threat to human health, particularly in disadvantaged communities. To what extent do existing environmental laws and policies adequately address persistent environmental threats to human health? Are current regulatory structures and institutions well-suited to safeguard human health from environmental threats? Or are new approaches necessary to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to live in safe and healthy communities? This one-day interdisciplinary conference on “Environmental Health and the Law” will examine these and related questions.
