In 2002, Weatherhead School of Management at 星空传媒 launched an initiative that caught Chuck Fowler鈥檚 eye: the world inquiry into 鈥渂usiness as an agent of world benefit.鈥 It was then that faculty and students across the school established a data bank to discover and showcase profitable business innovation in the arena of environmental sustainability and social entrepreneurship.
By 2009, the Fowler Center was established thanks to a timely and generous gift from Chuck and Char Fowler. Originally named the Fowler Center for Sustainable Value, the donation launched the inquiry into the existing business as an agent of world benefit initiative, driving it to a new level of priority, scale and scope as an interdisciplinary center of excellence.
鈥淪ustainability is here to stay,鈥 said Chuck Fowler at the time, 鈥渁nd it鈥檚 not just the right thing to do, but it鈥檚 a business innovation engine鈥攄oing good and doing well are totally and mutually reinforcing, and sustainability provides an overarching ideal and storehouse of leadership tools to make it so.鈥
The Fowler Center's aim is clear: To not only build on and leverage this legacy, but to create the world鈥檚 finest research, education and applied center for business as an agent of world benefit.
