Meet the Midwife: Leslie Ann Stroud

Celebrating National Nurse Midwifery Week 2021

To celebrate National Nurse Midwifery Week 2021, the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing asked our Nurse Midwifery community members to share their stories and tell us a little bit about themselves.

Certified Nurse Midwife and faculty member Leslie Ann Stroud knows exactly what her students in the Nurse Midwifery Program at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing are going through because she graduated from the same master’s program.

Now an instructor in the Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner programs, she’s helping shape the next generation of nurse midwives at ǿմý.

“My passions are for teaching future nursing leaders, and empowering women throughout their lives to be active participants in their own health care,” she said. “I am also a strong advocate for low intervention labor and birth.”

This semester, Stroud is teaching NUMN 415: Parents and Neonates in Health and Illness, which focuses on the health needs of women and families in the preconception, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period. This clinical lab course includes the implementation and evaluation of nursing strategies designed to enhance health in parents and neonates in health and illness.

Stroud is also completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the school of nursing and expects to graduate in 2024.

How do you like to start your day?

I start my day getting up pretty early. I like to have a warm cup of coffee with my husband on our front porch, enjoy the peacefulness of the morning, and map out the plans for my day.

What is the best advice you ever received?

The best advice I ever received was to never stop learning and growing. I try to learn something new each day, it keeps life interesting and enjoyable.

Where is the best place to spend a day in Cleveland?

I have many favorite places in Cleveland so it’s hard to pick just one. At this time of year, you will usually find me outside enjoying the fall weather. Shaker Lakes is a great place to watch the trees change color, go bird watching, or just take a hike to get some exercise.

What’s your favorite thing about ǿմý?

My favorite thing about ǿմý is the people. It is a privilege and an honor to be able to work and study with such talented, motivated, and accomplished individuals.
