Financial Aid for Graduate Students

All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. The majority of students are eligible for some type of assistance to cover the estimated cost of tuition and expenses for our programs.

The university includes tuition, fees and standard living allowances such as room and board, books and supplies, travel and miscellaneous or personal expenses to determine financial need for our programs. To receive assistance, students must:

  1. Complete the 
  2. Be enrolled at least half-time (5 credit hours)
  3. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  4. Complete the 
  5. Complete all supporting documentation as requested (i.e. income tax forms, etc.)

Grants & Scholarships

National Health Service Corps Scholarship (NHSC)

This is an excellent opportunity for full-time graduate students interested in advance practice. The NHSC Scholarship includes full tuition, required fees and other reasonable educational costs, plus a monthly stipend. If selected for this scholarship, the student must commit to work at least two years in a high-need urban, rural or frontier community facilities approved by the NHSC across the nation. NHSC will provide assistance in finding a practice site. 

Gerontological Nursing Grants

As our population ages across the country, the need for highly trained nurse practitioners increases. The FPB School of Nursing recognizes the need and has been successful in gaining financial support from various philanthropic foundations to support our program. Full-time graduates admitted to our MSN program, Specializing in Gerontological Nursing are considered for grant support.

Anesthesia Nursing Grants

The FPB School of Nursing is privileged to have been granted funding to provide tuition support for Our Nurse Anesthesia Program. Students admitted to our CRNA Program currently receive on average about 20% of their tuition cost. No additional application is required.

Teaching and Research Assistantships

FPB offers teaching and research assistant positions to qualified graduate students with relevant training experience. This is a tremendous opportunity to for students to gain exposure to academia and academic related careers in nursing as well as augment our resources from within FPB.

Federal Loans

Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

Low interest rate, the borrower is responsible for all interest that accrues while enrolled in school, and in deferment. Repayment begins 6 months after completing your program, or when you are enrolled in less than 5 credit hours. This is not a need-based program. All may be considered for this loan regardless of their financial need.

NURSE Corps Scholarship Program

Nursing students are eligible to receive funding for their training in exchange for working at least two years at an eligible NURSE Corps facility upon graduation. Scholarship provides funding for tuition, required fees, and other reasonable educational costs, along with a monthly stipend. Recipients must commit to at least two years working for a critical shortage facility. 

Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) 

After July 1, 2017, funding from the NFLP for NEW students will only be available to doctoral students (DNP or PhD).

[Those currently enrolled in our MSN program who are NFLP recipients, will continue to receive the funding.]

Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing has made graduate nursing education more affordable by obtaining funding for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP), which covers tuition and other costs for up to five years (approximately $35,500 per year)—up to 85 percent of which is forgiven. The NFLP was created in 2004 by the  (HRSA).

State Loans

Nurse Educational Assistance Loan Program (NEALP)

NEALP provides funding for nurses who intend to serve as instructors or students who intend to serve as nurses after graduation. Assistance is available for Ohio residents up to $5,000 per academic year for Future Nurse Instructors. Borrowers that serve as nurses after graduation are eligible for up to $1,620 per academic year. Twenty percent of the loan per year (five year max) may be forgiven for each year of service as a nurse in Ohio. Additional information is available at
