The American Musicological Society (AMS) has announced the results of their 2021 Board and Council election. Congratulations to the newly-elected, including Georgia Cowart, who will serve as President-Elect from November 2021 to October 2022, and then will serve as President November 2022 to October 2024.
The following individuals have been elected to listed offices and will formally begin service in late summer/fall 2021.

Georgia Cowart, President Georgia Cowart is Professor of Music at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. She completed her Ph.D. at Rutgers University in 1981; her research centers on 17th- and 18th-century French spectacle, music and politics, and opera and social issues. She served as AMS Vice president from 2016-2018. She will serve as President-elect from November 2021 to October 2022. |
Lydia Hamessley, Secretary Lydia Hamessley is Professor of Music at Hamilton College. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in 1989; her most recent book, Unlikely Angel: The Songs of Dolly Parton, was published in 2020 with the University of Illinois Press. She is a founding co-chair of the LGBTQ Study Group and active in the New York State-St. Lawrence Chapter. |
Naomi André, Director-at-Large Naomi André is Professor in Women’s Studies, the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies, and the Residential College Arts and Ideas in the Humanities program at the University of Michigan. She completed her Ph.D. at Harvard University in 1996. Her research interests include opera in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa from the 18th-century to the present, as well as Black music historiography in the U.S. She currently serves on the William F. Holmes/Frank D’Accone Dissertation Fellowship in Opera Studies Committee. |
Eduardo Herrera, Director-at-Large Eduardo Herrera is Associate Professor of Musicology at Rutgers University. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in 2013; his research interests center on Latin America in the 20th and 21st centuries, music and sports, and decoloniality. His most recent book, Elite Art Worlds: Philanthropy, Latin Americanism, and Avant-garde Music, was published in 2020 with Oxford University Press. He currently serves on the Teaching Award Committee. |
