About the Event

Each spring, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ undergraduate music majors compete in a recital format for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra or Symphonic Winds in the following academic year. This competition—coordinated by Dr. Kathleen Horvath, director of orchestras in the Department of Music—serves as a platform for students to showcase their musicianship, gain valuable performance experience, and receive public recognition for their achievements. A list of previous winners, highlighting the exceptional talent of past participants, is available at Alumni Awards: Recital Competitions.

Florence Harkness Memorial Chapel (est. 1902) is known for its Tiffany stained-glass windows, soaring arches, and exquisite woodwork. The neo-Gothic structure, located on Mather Quad at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (Cleveland, OH), commemorates the brief life of Florence Harkness Severance. The chapel offers a warm, intimate, and acoustically resonant space for Department of Music performances, lectures, and special events.

The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Music Concert Series offers free concerts and student recitals in the stunning Harkness Chapel. These performances highlight the exceptional talents of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students and faculty, providing the broader community with opportunities to enjoy high-quality live music in an intimate and historic setting.
