The Swetland Center continues to grow and we are proud to welcome our newest volunteer Thendral Veerasekar who will be assisting Dr. Owusua Yamoah with the Emergency Food Assistance and Food Security (EFAFS) study.

What project will you be working on and what is your role?
The Emergency Food Assistance and Food Security study and I will primarily be working on literature review, and possibly note-taking during interviews.
Where are you from?
I am from Buffalo Grove, Illinois
What is your educational background?
I am an International Studies major in my second year and my focus is on Development. I am specifically really interested in healthcare and human rights.
What excites you about joining the Swetland Center?
I have learned how much of an impact various social and economic factors can have on a person’s health, and it will be really great to be able to work on a project that is aimed at addressing those resulting inequalities. I’m excited to be learning more about how research is done within the community.
What is your favorite outdoor space in Cleveland or a place you want to explore?
There is a really cool abandoned observatory called the Warner and Swasey Observatory that is kind of outdoors that I visited once.
What is a piece of advice you have been given or quote/statement that is significant to you?
“Could be worse. Not sure how, but it could be”- Eeyore :)
