Owusua is a Research Scientist at the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½). She holds a PhD in Spatially Integrated Social Sciences from the University of Toledo (UT), a Master of Art in Urban Studies, Graduate certificates in Urban Planning and Land Use Management from Minnesota State University (MSU) and a Bachelor of Science in Development Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.
Dr. Yamoah is socio-spatial scientist with expertise in Geographic Information Science (GISc), qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Her research agenda is an amalgamation of three interrelated themes: Food systems and Health Disparities, Geospatial Analysis for Community development, and COVID-19 and Community Health. Her current projects focus on the use of geospatial technologies, qualitative interviews, photo elicitation and community engaged systems-level interventions to promote equitable food systems and food sovereignty in the city of Cleveland, Ohio.
Owusua served as a postdoctoral scholar at the Swetland Center prior to this position. As a postdoc, Owusua contributed to a team science approach through regular interaction with investigators, community partners, and other research staff. She led the Food Security and COVID-19 study and the focus group component of the Ohio Child Care study. She has also been involved in other impactful studies that involved interaction with community partners/stakeholders both in the United States and Ghana.
In her new role as the Research Scientist, Dr. Yamoah will lead the evaluation of the Nourishing Neighborhoods Empowering Communities Study, a community-engaged systems-level intervention while independently seeking opportunities to grow her research and the Food Systems and Health Equity research portfolio of the Swetland Center. She will also contribute to the leadership team of the Swetland Center and provide mentorship to trainees and staff in the Center. Owusua brings to the team her experience in mixed methods, geospatial analysis, community based participatory research approaches and her dynamic leadership approach.
