Best Practices
The Center for Civic Engagement & Learning (CCEL) developed the Best Practices for Responsible Community Engagement to guide and articulate our office's approach to engaging students in the community and to provide a framework for preparing and advising individuals, organizations, and departments interested in getting involved in the community.
Community Service Advising
CCEL supports students in identifying and getting involved with community organizations in Cleveland. Whether you are a Civic Engagement Scholar seeking a primary site or a ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ student who is looking to contribute to a cause you care about, here are some tips on how to connect with community organizations.
Elections and Voter Resources
CCEL supports active citizenship through political engagement by providing students with information on voter registration while also promoting diverse educational events related to upcoming elections.
Electronic Newsletter (E-News)
The CCEL E-news promotes non-partisan, civic engagement opportunities to ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students. Interested students then contact the hosting organization directly. The CCEL E-News is emailed each week during the academic year when classes are in session.
Transportation
The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) has three minivans. The vans were purchased to be used for group community service/service learning projects, and priority for usage is given to CCEL programs, service learning courses, and student groups engaged in activities related to civic engagement. When the vans are not in use for civic engagement activities, they may be rented for other group activities by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ academic departments, offices, and recognized student organizations.
Funding
CCEL provides project mini-grants, up to $100, to support ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ civic engagement projects for the academic year. Information about other potential funding resources is also listed.
Postgraduate Service
Numerous post-graduation and gap year service opportunities exist that allow college graduates to get involved in civic engagement initiatives both nationally and internationally. Visit this webpage to see a sampling of program options and to access resources that can help you research the different programs and identity a good match for you.
