Safety Tips

Crimes are never the fault of the victim, but we also want to ensure everyone takes steps that may reduce the possibility of crime. Below are a few tips provided by ǿմý police:

  • Keep your doors locked at all times, even when in the room or when going down the hall for only a few minutes.
  • Close and lock your windows when leaving your room, even for short periods of time.
  • Keep all property away from windows to prevent someone from reaching in and removing items.
  • Do not:
    • prop interior or exterior doors at any time,
    • hold an outside door open for strangers, or
    • allow strangers to “piggyback” on your access card.
  • If you arrive to your residence hall or office and it appears an unlawful entry has occurred, do not enter. Call the ǿմý Police Department immediately at 216.368-3333 from the safety of a neighbor’s room. Never enter the room, touch anything, or confront someone in the room or the building.

If you have any information on this crime, please call 216.368.3333 as soon as possible. If you would like to leave an anonymous tip, please call 216.368.3331.
