Resiliency in Self-defense Education and Universal Protection (RISE UP) is an advocacy program through the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Division of Public Safety led by certified self-defense instructors. It provides sexual assault and violence training for all students and employees, aiming to educate and boost confidence in situational awareness and self-defense.

We offer five different self-defense course options, which include: Student Physical Education Credit, Human Resources Wellness Program, Women Empowered, Universal Self-Defense, and 1-Hour Lunch Break Self-Defense. RISE UP is an essential self-defense program that promotes safe, secure and an inclusive environment.

Course 1: Student Physical Education Credit

This is a blended lecture and practical exercise-based course for enrolled students. Students will learn self-defense techniques and develop skills in preventative and situational awareness throughout the semester.

Course 2: Human Resources Wellness Program

This is an eight-week course that faculty and staff can participate in for the Human Resources Wellness Incentive. Participants can expect to learn various techniques and strategies to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. Instructors will cover basic self-defense moves, such as: punches, kicks, blocks, and techniques for escaping from grabs and holds.

Course 3: W.E. (Women Empowered)

This 3-week self-defense program is offered in the fall semester to those who identify as women of all ages and abilities at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. It utilizes a holistic approach to trauma-informed self-defense to educate students on the power of awareness, assertiveness and physical technique, while instilling confidence and security.

Course 4: U.S. (Universal Self-Defense)

Universal Self-Defense is a 3-week program offered to the entire campus community. The class will give insight into how to deploy self-defense tactics against an aggressor and how to exit an unwanted situation safely. Open to all, participants will be guided through exercises designed to strengthen their ability to defend themselves and build confidence in their abilities.

Future courses will be added to and announced in. For more information about the next available class, contact the program coordinator at publicsafety@case.edu.
