Residency and Clinical Fellowships

The Department of Pathology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, in collaboration with ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½) School of Medicine has a long history and strong tradition of teaching, research and patient care dating back nearly 100 years.  The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Medicine is one of the nation's leading medical research centers.  University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, an over 1,000 bed teaching hospital, serves a diverse patient population that enables residents to encounter an optimal mixture of primary and tertiary care problems.

The pathology offices and clinical laboratories for all of the medical center's hospitals are physically compact and centrally located.  The department's large anatomic, clinical, and molecular pathology faculty includes a full complement of subspecialty pathologists, covering the following fields: autopsy pathology, surgical pathology, pediatric pathology, neuropathology, transplant pathology,  microbiology, hematopathology, cytopathology, transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, molecular pathology and molecular genetics. Fellowship training is available in cytopathology, hematopathology, blood bank/transfusion medicine, and surgical pathology.

Our residents and fellows form a geographically and culturally diverse group with a strong sense of camaraderie. Their career goals are varied and include community practice, academic service pathology, forensic pathology and academic basic science. Because of the proximity of the hospital to some of Cleveland's finest residential areas, cultural institutions, and recreation facilities, our residents enjoy attractive, affordable housing, short commutes and wide-ranging, easily accessible "off- duty" activities.

Our residency program offers rigorous balanced training in anatomic and clinical pathology within a large thriving academic medical center. The faculty members of the department are enthusiastic teachers committed to postgraduate pathology education. The goal of our program is to provide a supportive and congenial atmosphere in which our residents can develop to their full potential and find their niche in the diverse field of pathology.
