Message from the Chair

Welcome to the department of Biochemistry at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Biochemistry as a discipline is ideally situated to prepare inquisitive individuals for professions in the life sciences. Our department has a rich history of research excellence and in the training of future generations of scientists and physicians. Research findings from the Biochemistry faculty and students are regularly highlighted in top tier, high impact journals including Biochemistry, Nature Medicine, Nature Cell Biology, Plos One, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Science Reports. Our educational programs include Bachelors, Masters, and PhD degrees, all of which are taught by our outstanding faculty.

Upon entering our department, you are immersed in a welcoming, intellectual environment where our faculty, staff, and students explore the foundations of the biochemical mechanisms that drive life, death, and disease at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level. The Biochemistry department resides in newly renovated space on the 4th and 5th floors of the Harland G. Wood Building in the School of Medicine. The department maintains state-of-the-art equipment and provides support for students, faculty, and staff.

Our faculty members explore paradigm shifting, biomedically relevant questions. Through the design and implementation of our research, we provide mentoring for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. The Biochemistry faculty at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ utilizes a broad spectrum of approaches within each laboratory including biophysical, molecular, and genetic techniques to explore key scientific questions and principles.

As a faculty, we are committed to both education and research; we seek to provide an environment that supports excellence. As Chair, I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about the exceptional educational and research opportunities here in the department of Biochemistry.
