Your KSL Research Services Librarian is available to assist with library resources and any of your research needs! Check out the following list of answers to frequently asked questions during the COVID-19 closure.
鈼 Returning materials: Until the library announces plans to accept returned books, please keep any books and other materials you have checked out. We will extend your due dates, and all fines and late fees accrued after March 16th will be waived.
鈼 Course reserves: Until KSL reopens there is no access to print course reserves, but our research services team can work with you to locate digital copies or alternative sources.
鈼 Instructional materials: Given the expected demand for more online course materials this summer and fall, we would appreciate it if you could please provide us with as much lead time as possible by planning ahead and contacting your librarian about your anticipated needs for ebooks, films, and other information resources.
鈼 Open Access (OA) and Open Educational Resources (OER): Although KSL does not supply course textbooks, research services librarians may also be able to assist you in identifying high quality open textbooks and other open educational resources that could reduce the financial burdens of 星空传媒 students. Please see our , with links to free and openly available content to support teaching and learning.
鈼 InterLibrary Loan: Our ILL staff are doing their best to fulfill as many requests as possible, but most other academic libraries are also currently closed and unable to lend materials. In the meantime, KSL has also engaged a commercial service, Reprints Desk. This service is expensive, so we ask your cooperation to your requests only to items for which the need is urgent. You may place these requests via the normal interlibrary loan forms, and include a note indicating the request is urgent.
鈼 Digital Instruction: Digital and information literacy skills are, in a remote online learning environment, more critical than ever. KSL is charging a small team to create an innovative library education program for upper level undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty, with the goal to launch offerings for this coming fall semester. This team will be working to develop and launch a digital and information literacy credit-bearing course for this coming Fall semester.
鈼 Research Consultations: Library staff can answer questions you or your students may have about finding and accessing information, and are available to schedule using Zoom.
鈼 Streaming Film and Video: To contain the cost of streaming media services, KSL is moving to fill only items by request. In particular, as of May 15 we will begin to license films from Kanopy only on a title-by-title basis because unfortunately the costs of full access to the entire Kanopy collection escalated rapidly and are no longer affordable or reasonable. to request films needed for teaching and research. Early requests are encouraged to ensure adequate time for acquisition and licensing.
鈼 Expanded Online Content: KSL has worked with publishers and vendors to provide on a temporary basis.
鈼 Special Collections and Archives: We can continue to accommodate various methods of instruction (in-person, remote, asynchronous) using primary source materials, but will need additional time to prepare for expanded options, such as collections that may require digitization. Please contact kslspecialcollections@case.edu to consult with us regarding these possibilities.
鈼 Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship: Research partnerships, consultations, and instruction continue to be available for Freedman Center services such as GIS, database design, creation of online exhibits, digitization, or use of advanced digital research technologies. Please contact freedmancenter@case.edu so we can discuss how best to partner with you.
鈼 Freedman Fellowships: until May 15 for funding and support for well-defined research projects that involve the application of digital tools and methods to scholarly or pedagogical problems.
鈼 Covid-19 stories from the campus: KSL is seeking to document the personal experiences of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and other campus members during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. We invite the campus community to record your stories and contribute them to the University Archives for preservation and a place in the university鈥檚 historical record.
