Samuel Boas is the 2020-2021 Daniel Lewis Ravin Scholar at the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health. The Daniel Lewis Ravin, MD Award honors a rising fourth-year medical student at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ who shows promise in the fields of occupational or environmental medicine to assist in professional development and research in said fields through the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health. Sam received his Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from Tufts University and is in his 4th year at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ School of Medicine.
Sam believes deeply in the transformative power of work and is committed to advocating for safe working conditions for all. While studying at Tufts he became interested in labor advocacy through his work with the local student organizing group. He continued exploring work-related issues before medical school while working in a chronic pain clinic in Brooklyn, New York. He was exposed to the world of workplace injury and disability and found taking care of these patients to be extremely gratifying and rewarding.
In his role as the Daniel Lewis Ravin Scholar, he hopes to continue his research into multidisciplinary post-traumatic amputation care clinics and environmental determinants of peripheral vascular disease. He is will continue to strengthen his skills in big data analysis and critically appraise how these sources of data can be used to better the greater Cleveland community. He is very excited about this position and hopes to be a mainstay around the Mary Ann Swetland Center. Please feel free to reach out and welcome Sam (srb156@case.edu)!
