Headshot of Martinique Mims

We are excited to welcome Martinique Mims on to our team! She is joining us as a Program Assistant, and you can learn more about her in the interview below.

  • What is your role and what projects will you be working on?

As a SNAP-Ed Program Assistant, I'm focused on promoting nutrition education and healthy living in the community. I help implement programs that empower individuals and families to make informed food choices and stay active. My projects include collaborating with schools, community centers, and organizations to deliver educational workshops. I also collect and analyze data to ensure our programs are effective and meet community needs.

  • Where are you from?

I am from Cleveland, Ohio.

  • What is your background in?

I have a diverse background in community-focused education and the arts. As a field fellow with FoodFirst, I created , a project in Cleveland that connected food, art, and the community by placing local artists in schools and community centers to teach nutrition and health through an artistic lens. I also have experience teaching storytelling through dance and basic ballet to PreK-5th grade students. Additionally, my work as an AmeriCorps member and recruitment manager has further deepened by commitment to education and community empowerment.

  • What excites you about joining the Swetland Center?

I'm excited to bring my passion for education, creativity, and community engagement to the SNAP-Ed team at the Swetland Center. Last year, I created a community project dedicated to combining nutrition education with the arts, which has provided me with hands-on experience in the very work I'll be doing as a Program Assistant at SNAP-Ed. My background in the arts has allowed me to work with youth and use creative approaches to inspire and educate. I'm excited to continue this journey, helping to empower our community with the knowledge and skills to lead healthier, more vibrant lives.

  • What is your favorite outdoor space in Cleveland or a place you want to explore?

One of my favorite outdoor spaces in Cleveland is the Metroparks. Not only do they offer beautiful trails and views, but they also provide unique activities like archery, which I'm particularly interested in exploring more. The combination of nature and recreational opportunities makes it a place I always look forward to visiting.
