2023 Has been a whirlwind for the Swetland Center as we welcomed two new team members. We are thrilled to have Shannon Walker, PhD, MEd, BA join us as a post-doctoral fellow this year! You can read a little more about Shannon below.
1. What project will you be working on and what is your role?
I am a postdoctoral research scholar and will be conducting community-engaged and health-equity-oriented research with the Swetland Center and the CTSC, working to disseminate research findings to the community.
2. Where are you from?
I was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland and recently returned from living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the last four years while I completed my doctoral work.
3. What is your background in?
My PhD is in Public & Community Health, where I focused on social determinants of health and reproductive health outcomes and postpartum well-being in Black women. I have a Masters of Education in Community Health Promotion and a Bachelors in Environmental Studies, both from Cleveland State University. My previous work experience has been in clinical research, largely working on oncology studies.
4. What excites you about joining the Swetland Center?
I am most excited about engaging with different community and academic partners on sustainable research endeavors to move the needle toward health equity and social justice.
5. What is your favorite outdoor space in Cleveland or a place you want to explore?
I love the Metroparks and the lake!
