On December 1, Swetland Center intern D'Ella Heschmeyer was awarded the top funding amount for a grant proposal she co-authored on behalf of the of Northern Ohio.

The Surfrider Foundation of Northern Ohio was awarded $5,000 for the relaunching of the program. The funds will assist BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and female business owners to participate in the program, which recognizes restaurants who commit to eliminating the use of single-use plastics and engaging in other sustainable practices within their business.

The grant was awarded by Baldwin Wallace University's Jacket Philanthropy Program, through which Baldwin Wallace students work with nonprofit organizations in the Cleveland area to perform service and craft a grant to secure project funding. D'Ella worked with project partners Brendan Coughlin and John Bartolotto to write a full grant proposal throughout the Fall 2022 semester and their grant was selected for the most possible funding over three other environmental grants.

Congratulations, D'Ella!
