What project will you be working on and what is your role?
I will be working as a Graduate Research Assistant on the Emergency Food Assistance and Food Security Program.
Where are you from?
Flagstaff, Arizona!
What is your background in?
My academic background is in anthropology, so I mainly have qualitative research experience. For my Ph.D. I'll be specifically utilizing a strengths-based framework, historical trauma theory, and decolonizing research theory. I've also worked as a teacher at the K-8 level, both in the UK and on the Navajo Reservation, and assisted with curriculum and program development.
What excites you about joining the Swetland Center?
I am very excited to work on a project focused on food security! Since working on the Navajo Reservation, and witnessing the importance of food banks in the lives of my students and coworkers, I feel very strongly about their importance as community resources. In addition, I am looking forward to gaining research experience and learning from the other research teams here at the Center!
What is your favorite outdoor space in Cleveland or a place you want to explore?
My go-to spot is the Lakeview Cemetery, but I love to hike and run so please feel free to send me recommendations:)
What is a piece of advice you have been given or a quote/statement that is significant to you?
One of my favorite quotes is by the author Jeff Brown, who wrote "The open-hearted will inherit the earth".
