Read our interview below to learn a little more about Audrey!

Where are you from?

I am from Laguna Niguel, California.

What is your background?

My background is in STEM, elementary education, food security, and healthcare.  During my time as an undergraduate, I co-founded a STEM outreach program for elementary school students, worked as a student staff at our campus pantry (R’Pantry), and designed a project aimed at promoting student engagement in food security and basic needs efforts on campus for a Global Food Initiative (GFI) fellowship.  I aspire to utilize my diverse background in a career as a physician with a focus on preventative health and community programming to promote healthy lifestyles.

What excites you about joining the Swetland Center?

I am excited to learn more about the social determinants of health through the Swetland Center’s research on environment and health.  I hope to further my understanding of the impacts of systemic changes on food security status and advance my goal of creating a nutrition-focused elementary STEM program that takes into account these challenges to support students in making informed and sustainable lifestyle changes.

What is your favorite outdoor space in Cleveland or a place you want to explore?

I have never actually been to Cleveland, so I definitely hope to visit the campus one day and explore not only the campus but also the West Side Market.

What is a piece of advice you have been given or a quote/statement that is significant to you?

A piece of advice I have received that is significant to me to use challenges encountered in life as opportunities for growth.  This is something I continue to live by every day and have developed into a desire to help others do the same so they are able to achieve their full potential in life.

Welcome to Swetland Audrey!
