The Swetland Center for Environmental Health proudly welcomes Brinda Athreya to the team as our newest Qualitative Research Associate.

Brinda graduated with a PhD from the University of Toledo. Her dissertation focused on the human and environmental interplay involving farmers’ agricultural practices and their influence on the Western Lake Erie Basin using triangular methods of research. She has conducted surveys and interviews at varying scales in understanding farmers’ perceptions towards harmful algal blooms.

Brinda holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, India. She worked at the School of Freshwater Sciences learning the techniques of sustainable food production in a contained environment, the science of aquaponics and radio telemetry of sturgeon.

She will be starting her time with the center focusing on sharing her expertise with both the Building Capacity for Obesity Prevention (BCOP) and the foodNEST 2.0 study

We are grateful for Brinda's knowledge and willingness to broaden our capacity here at the Swetland Center!
