Publication Announcement: "Food system dynamics structuring nutrition equity in racialized urban neighborhoods"

Mentors and Mentees meeting

This paper, published in , marks the culmination of the 3.5-year research project: Modeling the Future of Food in Your Neighborhood (foodNEST 2.0).

The project combined ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ scholars with community researchers, leaders, and activists to explore local food system dynamics. The team identified nutrition equity as a new goal to guide local food systems in racialized neighborhoods.

Nutrition equity is defined as having freedom, agency, and dignity in food traditions resulting in people and communities healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

Researchers found that for a food system to be nutritionally equitable, three key factors must be present: economic opportunity, food security, and fair access to fresh and healthy foods. More information on these findings and how we got here are available in the paper: .
