Madelon Jensen completed her externship at the Public Children Services Association of Ohio, a membership-driven association of Ohio's county Public Children Services Agencies. PCSAO advocates for safe children, stable families, and supportive communities in various ways. They help support and advance sound public policy and promote program excellence through their Ohio START Programming. They also help build public value.
Madelon was under the supervision of the director of public policy for PCSAO, Mary Wachtel. Madelon was allowed to attend multiple staff and member meetings at PCSAO, such as staff meetings, the legislative committee meetings, and attending a day of their executive membership conference in December. One of her main projects was creating a resource about the state capital budget for PCSAOs members. As a result of her experiences, Madelon learned more about how policy can impact different communities and how membership-driven organizations work. Madelon described this experience as helping to solidify her plans to work in policy after graduation.
