Emily Bazelon, author of The New York Times best-seller Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy, will share the social causes, ramifications and legal implications of bullying when she leads the 2013-14 Schubert Center Conversation Series Sept. 26. She also will provide tools for parents, schools and students to help prevent and stop bullying and build a healthy and successful school climate.

The free, public event is Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wolstein Research Building auditorium. The conversation series aims to connect faculty, students, staff, visiting researchers, practice and policy experts and community members whose work impacts children, young people and families.

Recent high-profile cases of bullying compelled the Schubert Center for Child Studies to address this issue within the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ community. This talk will provide a deeper understanding of the environments and dynamics of children who bully and are bullied, as well as how to promote positive and caring engagement by young people.

Beyond families, schools are ground zero for the social development of children and adolescents. A shared effort by parents, educators, students and concerned citizens is essential to advocate for and equip children with the skills they need to ensure their own well-being and success.
