When Peter Ho Davies’ The Fortunes was for ǿմý’s common reading program it was described as “a beautifully written book that moves between humor and tragedy.”
“We believe the many themes and topics the author brings together will deeply engage our new students, who come to ǿմý with a wealth of different experiences and backgrounds,” said Daniel Goldmark, a professor of music and an associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, who chaired the common reading committee.
In an effort to continue the conversation and further engage in conversations about history, politics, music, family, technology and religion, the Office of First-Year Experience and Family Programs has instituted a slate of programming to further explore these themes. First-Year students and the entire ǿմý community are invited to attend any of the events listed below to further engage with this year's common reading selection.
- Sept. 18: History of Cleveland's Chinatown Screening
- Sept. 20: Situational Awareness Workshop
- Sept. 29: Movie Series: Vincent Who?
- Oct. 27: - Postponed!
Additional events may be added in the future. Be sure to visit Common Reading Resources for details.
