About the Program

Discover ways to help families understand genetic predispositions by pursuing a dual master’s degree in genetic counseling and bioethics and medical humanities at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Through customized coursework and clinical rotations, you’ll be able to develop a specialty and carve out a niche for yourself—while being supported by our passionate faculty and dedicated staff. During your 2.5 years here, you’ll have a personal advisor who will help set you up for a successful academic or professional career in a role such as a genetic counselor or hospital ethics consultant.

What to Expect

Once you’ve completed your first year in the genetic counseling program, you can apply for our dual-degree program. We’re selective, so you know your classmates take their studies as seriously as you do. You’ll take courses such as ethical issues in genetics/genomics, medical science and technology in society, and neuroethics, in addition to your clinical rotations. You’ll also determine a research project to pursue that focuses on genetic research or includes the ethical, legal, or social implications of genetic counseling practice, clinical genetics or genomics.

If you want to gain international experience, you can study abroad while taking bioethics and medical humanities courses. Students have gone on trips to Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, and many other locations to understand the intersection of culture and medical ethics.
