Zhemin Zhang, PhD

Assistant Professor
Department of Pharmacology
School of Medicine

Dr. Zhang’s research is dedicated to uncovering the functional mechanisms of key disease-related proteins using structural biology and other biophysical techniques. He aims to leverage this knowledge to develop novel therapeutics for diseases where there are minimal or no effective treatments. His training is extensive and varied, encompassing a wide range of computational and experimental techniques, such as virtual screening, protein-ligand docking, X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. He earned his Ph.D. from the School of Life Science at Sun Yat-sen University in China, where he focused on studying the structural basis and function of microbial nucleic acid repair enzymes. Following this, he joined the Department of Pharmacology at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ as a postdoctoral researcher in 2019. During this time, he aimed to understand the structure/function of proteins associated with drug resistance in pathogenic microorganisms. Currently serving as an assistant professor, his independent research primarily focuses on elucidating the structure of proteins in mammalian tissues through the lens of structural proteomics.
