Chih-Chia (Jack) Su, PhD

Assistant Professor
Department of Pharmacology
School of Medicine

Dr. Su received his Ph.D. in the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University, where he performed structural and functional studies of multidrug efflux systems in bacteria. As a postdoctoral researcher, he extended his research on bacterial multidrug resistance, quickly being promoted to assistant then associate scientist. This research work resulted in several publications in high impact journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, and PNAS.  He joined ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ as an Instructor and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology. His independent research focuses on structural and functional insights into outer membrane asymmetry in Gram-negative bacteria and host-pathogen interactions. As a trained structural biologist, he utilizes single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and has recently developed the "Build and Retrieve" (BaR) methodology to simultaneously characterize multiple macromolecular complex structures directly from cells, tissue, and organs
