One of the benefits of attending medical school at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ is the affordability and availability of reasonably priced housing in Cleveland. Also, unlike most major cities, you need not use a real estate agent to locate apartments; our residential communities offer, as a neighborhood service, housing information.

The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ campus, located in , is situated on the edge of beautiful residential neighborhoods, which are described below. Students live in apartments, two-family houses, rooms in private homes, and single-family houses that several students rent together. Housing in these neighborhoods is close to the medical school and many students live within walking or biking distance. In addition, RTA buses run from University Circle to these areas via Mayfield and Cedar Roads.

Areas Near the Medical School

The , where most students live, has three neighborhoods that are attractive to students (because of the proximity of a grocery store, restaurants, and other shops), known as Coventry. These areas are a 15-25 minute walk to school. 

is about a 10-minute drive to the medical school. The apartments are comparable to those in Cleveland Heights. The Shaker Square Area Development Corp., 11811 Shaker Blvd. Suite 206, Cleveland OH 44120, 216.421.2100, open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, maintains a current register of available rentals in the Shaker Square neighborhood. There is a city bus that runs from Shaker Square to University Circle. The Blue Line and Green Line run between Shaker Square and downtown.

The Shaker Heights Housing Office, 3450 Lee Road, Shaker Heights, OH 44120, 216.491.1330, maintains a roster of apartments and homes for rent in Shaker Heights, which is about a 15-minute drive from the law school. There are two Rapid Transit lines from Shaker Heights to downtown.

Students also find apartments right in the University Circle area. The opened in 2012 and has become the new center for student activity. The Hessler Court/East 115th Street area offers very reasonably-priced apartments. The Triangle, 216.791.5959, located in the heart of University Circle, is a 5-minute walk from the medical school. Also nearby are the Waldorf Tower Apartments (about a 15-minute walk), 216.791.8547, and Kensington Place (about a 10-minute drive), 216.691.1944.

There are many beautiful neighborhoods just west of the City of Cleveland as well. is an up-and-coming area of the city the boasts eclectic restaurants and pubs, as well as, a close proximity to the . The city of , which is about a 25-minute drive from the medical school, is an area full of unique shops, restaurants and entertainment. Many properties allow for excellent views of Lake Erie or provide easy access to the lake. Comparable to Cleveland Heights in feel and types of properties available, Lakewood's housing prices are a little less expensive. Nearby neighborhoods include and , which are abundant with condominiums as well as apartments.

How To Get Information About Available Housing

May through June is a good time to start looking for housing for occupancy in July. Rental listings are also provided in the daily and suburban newspapers. is the major daily. The is a suburban weekly which comes out each Thursday; the suburbs of University Heights, Cleveland Heights, and Shaker Heights jointly have their own issue of the which can be purchased at stores in any of these communities.
