Research Information

Research Interests

Prior to my training at The Ohio State University and Bruker BioSpin Corp., I had 10 years of experience in small molecule synthesis, new reagents development, and large-scale production of drug-like compounds. Since turning my focus to molecular imaging and cardiovascular disease about eight years ago, I have developed contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of atherosclerosis and discovered new mechanisms by which inflammation regulates atherogenesis, adiposity, and metabolic syndrome in various experimental disease models and environmental settings. Today, I have a substantial track record in drug and imaging probe delivery, MRI system development, and imaging of metabolic diseases.

Research Projects

Our research team develops nanotechnology tools to better understand cardiometabolic diseases such as atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes and obesity. We engineer, make and test new imaging probes, drug delivery vehicles and sensors that help to diagnose and treat these conditions. In addition to imaging and drug delivery projects, our laboratory investigates lipoproteins and their function and metabolic biology of immune cells. We also have long-standing interest in toxicology of synthetic and environmental nano-/microparticles and their effects on cardiometabolic health. Recently, we started to look into cardiovascular biology of incretin peptides, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 to see how these molecules maybe involved in immune cells behavior and anti-atherosclerotic effects.
