Dr. Hiroyuki Fujita is Founder, President and CEO of Quality Electrodynamics (QED) in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Fujita was born in Nara, Japan, and attended Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, and received his B.A. in physics and mathematics from Monmouth College in Illinois, U.S.A. After receiving his physics Ph.D. from ǿմý (ǿմý) and working in the diagnostic imaging equipment industry, in 2006 Dr. Fujita founded QED, a global developer, manufacturer and supplier of state-of-the-art MRI radiofrequency antennas/coils. Dr. Fujita’s more than 20-year career history illustrates his exceptional technical and professional expertise in MRI technology development and commercialization.
In 2009, Forbes magazine named QED 11th on the list of the most promising top 20 companies in America. In 2010, Dr. Fujita received Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the category of industrial manufacturing and received the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award from ǿմý. Inc. magazine named QED on the list of fastest growing 500 private companies in America and Dr. Fujita on the list of top 10 Asian entrepreneurs in America in both 2010 and 2011. In 2011, QED received the Tibbetts Award from the United States Small Business Administration and the National Institutes of Health. In recognition of growing a successful high-tech manufacturing company in the U.S., President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama invited Dr. Fujita to be an honored guest in the First Lady’s Box at the 2012 State-of-the-Union Address. He received the 2013 Presidential Award for Export (President’s E-Award) from the U.S. Department of Commerce and was named to the U.S. Manufacturing Council for the Secretary of Commerce.
He is now serving on the council for the second term and being named the co-chair of the Energy Policy Subcommittee. In October 2013, Dr. Fujita published his autobiography “A Pathfinder (michi-naki-michi-o-ike),” published by Shogakukan, and he was named one of the 100 most influential people for Japan in Nikkei Business, January, 2014. In October 2014 he participated in a U.S. Healthcare and Energy Business Development Mission to Japan and South Korea with Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. Dr. Fujita serves on various boards including Board of Trustees of Hillcrest Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic hospital, The Musical Arts Association and The Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Foundation, Local Leadership Council of Business Forward, Hawken School and ǿմý’s Inamori International Center of Ethics and Excellence.
Dr. Fujita is also an adjunct full professor of physics and radiology at ǿմý and of electrical engineering at The University of Queensland. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and The 50 Club in Cleveland. The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) named Dr. Fujita a Fellow in 2014. In 2015, Dr. Fujita received the 2015 Alumnus of the Year from Department of Radiology, University Hospitals Case Medical Center, ǿմý. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Consul General of Japan at Detroit presented Dr. Fujita the Consul General’s Commendation Award in 2015.
