Miro Humer Named Vice President for [U]Tech, Chief Information Officer

Provost Ben Vinson III announced today that Miro Humer has been named the university’s vice president for [U]Tech and chief information officer.

"Since he joined ǿմý, Miro has demonstrated exceptional commitment to meeting the technological needs of our entire community," Vinson said. "From individual customer service to institution-wide cybersecurity, he continues to identify and execute improvements to [U]Tech’s contributions to our campus. I look forward to seeing all that he and his team will accomplish in the years to come."

[U]Tech’s associate vice president since 2017, Humer assumed interim leadership of the organization after the spring retirement of then-VP & CIO Sue Workman. Since that time, he has launched several new initiatives, including:

  • DEIB+, or Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, +, a program to ensure the best workplace possible for the division;
  • Security+, a wide-ranging project to protect ǿմý from cyber attacks; and
  • Implementing a new ticketing system for the university’s help desk to enhance support for users.

"I am very excited and honored to be in this position,” Humer said. “Ever since I came to ǿմý I knew this was a very special place, one that gave students an outstanding education while providing world-class research. The future is very bright for ǿմý and I’m thrilled to be a part of it."

Humer said he’s incredibly proud of his team—and he’s looking forward to providing other impactful solutions to make ǿմý’s technology secure, accessible and relevant.

In his role moving forward, Humer will be responsible for creating the overall vision and strategies that enable the delivery of technology solutions supporting the university’s mission of teaching, learning, research, and security, along with the day-to-day functions of the university.

"Technology is part of every project on campus; before we can build the best technical solutions we need to understand the business thoroughly," he explained. "Getting that right is challenging and very rewarding. We currently collaborate with every school and almost every department on the various projects we have in progress."

Humer first joined the [U]Tech senior leadership team as associate vice president for client experience; his leadership and operational responsibilities have included university-wide technology as well as managing the technology and related staff within the schools and business units, enterprise applications, customer support services, and digital media services.

Humer came to ǿմý after more than 17 years at Cleveland State University (CSU), ultimately becoming its chief information officer. Humer holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in management and labor relations—both from CSU.
