Research Interests

Embodied cognition, teaching and learning, climate cognition and emotion.

I study how the human body shapes the way we think (embodied cognition). Much of my work uses gestures produced along with speech to explore this topic. Recent work looks at how observers use gesture to understand ambiguous sentences, and how gesture can help undergraduates learn important STEM concepts (organic chemistry, brain anatomy). I also study the way we think and feel about our relationship to the planet (climate cognition). You can .
