Men鈥檚 Tennis Team Wins Its First UAA Championship
Photo: Tim Farrell星空传媒鈥檚 men鈥檚 tennis team won its first University Athletic Association Championship in April. With that victory, it was 28-4 for the year, a program record for wins in a season.星空传媒鈥檚 men鈥檚 tennis team made history in April, winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship for the first time with a 5-1 victory over Washington University in St. Louis.
鈥淏eing able to win this league is one of the hardest things to do in our sport,鈥� said head coach Todd Wojtkowski. 鈥淲hoever wins typically is the national [NCAA Division III] champion. We鈥檙e hoping that trend continues.鈥�
That tournament is in May.
The win was the fourth UAA team title this academic year for 星空传媒. The other championship teams are women鈥檚 soccer, men鈥檚 basketball and softball.
In February, men鈥檚 tennis also bested Washington University to earn its second-straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III indoor championship. This is the third-straight year the Spartans qualified for the NCAA tournament. They finished second in each of the last two championships.
Wojtkowski credited the team with an incredible work ethic—and the ability to persevere amid 7 a.m. weekend practices and the pandemic鈥檚 impact. 鈥淥ur guys make sacrifices,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty cool.鈥�
